Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours?

Our clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm and Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. This can occasionally change depending on the day, so please call prior to visiting unexpectedly. We are closed weekends and holidays. Please note, as Dr. Miller only has one medical office assistant, please be patient when trying to call into the clinic. There is a large volume of calls received every day.

When will my consultation take place?

Upon receipt of your referral, Dr. Miller will triage your case based on urgency. This is done using the information provided by your primary care provider in the initial letter. If there is no description of symptoms within the referral, it is assumed to be elective. Due to volume of referrals received, providing individual wait times is extremely difficult.

If you feel that your condition is worsening while awaiting consultation, please have your primary care provider send an update regarding your symptoms or contact our office directly.

A general guideline is as follows:

  • URGENT - Within 1-3 weeks e.g. a new cancer diagnosis

  • PRIORITY -Within 3-6 months e.g. symptomatic gallstones or hernia

  • ELECTIVE - 6 months to 1 year e.g. asymptomatic surgical concern, benign lump for excision, etc.

Your initial consultation may take place over the phone, in clinic, in the endoscopy suite, or in the outpatient department depending on the condition.

Dr. Miller requires your imaging and pathology to be available for your initial appointment in order to have all necessary information for a complete consultation. If this has not been completed despite a report received by your primary care provider asking for the same, Dr. Miller’s office will notify your doctor or nurse practitioner to fill out the necessary requisitions and forward them to the appropriate departments. Alternatively, she may send you for further diagnostic investigations prior to your consultation. Radiology and biopsy wait times are not within Dr. Miller’s control and estimates for this cannot be provided by our office.

How can I prepare for my clinic visit?

In anticipation of your upcoming consultation, please come to the clinic with a recent medication list and having filled out the clinic questionnaire sent to you in advance.

Is parking available?

Most patients easily find free street parking on College Avenue or Osler Street. There is one accessible parking space located on Osler Street with a wheelchair ramp to the main entrance. If you require the use of this space, please call the clinic in advance to ensure the space is free. Please DO NOT park in the apartment parking lot located next to the clinic.

Will learners be involved in my visit?

As an assistant professor at the College of Medicine, Dr. Miller may have learners, such as medical students or residents, participate in your care with your consent.

Can I make an appointment directly with Dr. Miller?

Dr. Miller requires a formal referral in order to arrange for an appointment and one cannot be made directly without the same. If you have not been seen for over 6-12 months or have been formally discharged from the clinic, a new referral may be required from your primary care provider.

If I need to cancel my appointment, how much notice is required?

Please provide 24-48 hours notice for any appointment cancellations. Given waitlist constraints, leaving empty appointment times is unfair to others waiting for their consultation. If you do not attend your appointment and you have not formally cancelled, you may be charged a fee of $80 for new patient consultation or $35 for a follow up appointment. This will not be charged if you are unable to attend due to extenuating circumstances.

Can I wear my outside footwear in the clinic?

We kindly ask that you leave any outdoor footwear at the door. You may bring slippers to wear indoors if you wish.

I have been booked for surgery, when will my procedure happen?

After Dr. Miller has submitted your surgical booking form, you will be contacted by OR scheduling when a date is available. Surgical waitlist estimates are very difficult to provide. Our clinic cannot give you a date for your surgery. However, you may contact the Regina Surgical Waitlist Inquiry line at 1 (866) 622-0222 or 1 (306) 766-0460. If you feel your condition is worsening while on the waitlist, please contact the office for review.
